Payment

Last updated 20 August 2026.

This page explains how a card payment on this site works: who takes it, what we see, and what happens to your money. If anything here is unclear, email us and we will explain.

What you can pay for here

This website books events. Two kinds of card payment happen here: the "Buy us a pint" button, a one-off, voluntary amount you choose to send us, priced per pint at a fixed rate shown before you pay; and booking a paid event, where you pay the host's ticket price plus our platform fee, shown together as one total before you confirm. Free events take no payment. We only ask for your name, so the host knows who is coming.

When you book a paid event, the host is the seller of the ticket. We are not the seller; we take the booking and our fee for arranging it. The price shown on the event is the all-in total: what you pay is what you see, with nothing added at the next step.

The platform fee

Our platform fee is a separate charge from the host's ticket. It pays for finding you the event, taking the booking and handling the payment, and it is used up the moment your place is booked, not on the day of the event itself. That is different from the ticket, which is tied to a date and can, in principle, be moved or refunded if that date changes. See our refund policy for what happens to each if a booking does not go ahead.

Who takes the payment

Card payments are processed by Stripe. When you pay, your card details are typed directly into a form that Stripe controls and sends straight to Stripe. They do not pass through our servers, and we never see or store your full card number, expiry date, or security code.

What we do receive from Stripe is confirmation that the payment succeeded, the amount, and the email address you gave for a receipt, if you gave one.

Security

Stripe is certified to PCI DSS Level 1, the highest level of security certification in the payments industry. That certification belongs to Stripe, not to us: we are not a payments company and we do not handle card data ourselves, which is the point of using a processor like Stripe rather than building our own.

Currency and price

Everything on this site is priced and charged in pounds sterling (GBP). The price is fixed and shown on the button before you confirm payment, along with what Stripe's own processing fee is, so you can see roughly what reaches us.

Receipts

Stripe emails a receipt automatically to the address you give at checkout. If you did not give an email, we have no way to send one after the fact.

If something goes wrong

If a payment fails, nothing is taken. If you were charged twice, charged the wrong amount, or want to talk about a payment you have already made, see our refund policy, or email support@socialise.events with the date and amount.
