Booking terms

Last updated 2 September 2026.

These are the terms you book an event under. Who you are buying from, what we look after, what the host looks after, and what happens when something changes. If a line here is unclear, email support@socialise.events and we will explain it.

Who you are buying from

The person or group running an event is the host, and the host is the seller. When you buy a ticket you buy it from them. They set the price, they run the day, and the contract for the event is between you and them.

Socialise is the booking platform. We list the event, take the payment through Stripe, send you your ticket, and charge a platform fee for doing it. The platform fee is ours. The ticket money is the host's.

The price you see is the total. Ticket and platform fee together, in pounds, with nothing added at the end.

The platform fee pays for booking your place, and we do that the moment you pay, so the fee is used up at that point. We say so on screen before you pay.

Sometimes we are the host. When the event page says Socialise is running it, we are the seller and the organiser, and everything on this page that describes what a host looks after is us.

What we look after

We are responsible for the booking working. The event details we show you matching what the host gave us. Your payment being handled properly. Your ticket reaching you. The platform fee being what we said. Your information being looked after the way our privacy page describes.

If we get one of those wrong, tell us and we will put it right.

What the host looks after

The host is responsible for the event. The venue and whether it is safe and accessible, the activity itself, someone turning up to run it, any licence the day needs, and the event being the thing that was described.

We do not run background checks on hosts, or on the people who come. For an event somebody else is running, we have not inspected the venue either. We would rather you knew that before you book than found out afterwards.

When Socialise is the host, that changes, because the responsibilities do. We choose the venue, we check it ourselves, and the access and quiet-space notes on the page are our own. When somebody else hosts, those notes are theirs: we publish what the host tells us about their venue, and it is their statement rather than a check we have carried out.

Either way, we act on what people tell us, and we stop listing a host who lets people down.

Booking a place

Socialise is for adults. By booking you are confirming you are 18 or over. We do not ask for ID and we do not check, so we are taking your word for it. A host can refuse entry on the day to anyone they reasonably believe is under 18.

For a paid event we ask for your email so we can send your ticket. For a free event we ask for a first name, a last name and an email, so the host has an accurate list of who is coming. Our privacy page explains what happens to all of it and how long we keep it.

Book with details that are actually yours. A booking made in someone else's name can be cancelled.

If an event is cancelled, moved or changed

Hosts cancel sometimes. Illness, weather, a venue falling through.

If the host cancels, your ticket money comes back and the platform fee comes back too. If the host moves the event to a different date or a different place, or changes it enough that it is not the thing you booked, you can treat that as a cancellation and ask for the same. A room swap in the same building, or a start time moving by fifteen minutes, is not that.

If you cannot make it, the ticket is non-refundable. That is one rule for every paid event on Socialise, whoever hosts it, and it is shown on the event before you book.

Because an event happens on a set date, the usual 14-day right to change your mind about something bought online does not apply to a ticket. That is how the rules work for anything with a fixed date, concerts and classes included.

Our refund page covers how a refund reaches you and how long your bank takes.

How we expect people to behave

Most of this is obvious and most people never have to think about it. It is written down because on the rare occasion it matters, it matters a lot.

Treat the people at an event the way you would want to be treated. No harassment, no abuse, no threats, and no targeting anyone for who they are. Do not arrive in a state that makes the evening worse for everyone else. Do not use an event to sell things or to recruit people. Do not pass on someone's private details without asking them first.

A host can ask someone to leave an event. We can stop someone booking again, and we can do that whether or not they have an account with us. We will do it where someone has behaved in a way that made an event unsafe or unpleasant for other people, and we do not need to have been in the room to act on what we are told. If that happens to you and you think we have it wrong, email support@socialise.events and a person will look at it again.

Keeping a record of who booked is what makes any of that possible. Our privacy page explains what we keep and why.

Using this site

Use it to find events and book them.

Do not scrape it, do not try to break into it, do not upload anything harmful, and do not pretend to be someone else. We can block access if you do.

If something goes wrong

Email support@socialise.events with what happened, the event and the date. We will reply.

If the problem is with the event, we will help you reach the host and we will chase them, though the host is the one who has to put it right. If the problem is with the booking, the payment or the fee, that one is ours.

The legal bits

Nothing on this page takes away rights you have as a consumer under UK law. Where a term here conflicts with those rights, your rights win.

We do not limit what we are liable for in the case of death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud. Nobody is allowed to, and we would not want to.

Past that, we answer for the things listed under what we look after, and for losses that follow reasonably from us getting one of them wrong. We do not answer for what happens at an event we did not run. That is different from a problem we caused, like showing you the wrong address, which is ours.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can bring a claim in your local courts.

If we change these terms, the change applies to bookings made after it. A booking you have already made stays on the terms that applied when you made it.
